Coimbatore district has been facing 14 hours of power cut a day for three weeks
The one-day strike by the micro and cottage industries in Coimbatore, numbering over 30,000, on October 27 to protest against long hours of power cut will be supported by several political parties too.
While the Bharatiya Janata Party has already announced that it will support the protest, the CPI, CPI (M), MDMK, Forward Block, Kungunadu Munnetra Kazhagam and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal decided at a meeting here on Saturday to extend support to the protest.
The parties will also organise a demonstration in front of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) office here on October 27.
The parties demanded measures on a war-footing to bring down the power cut duration in the district.
For almost three weeks, the district is facing 14 hours of power cut a day. They also sought streamlining distribution of the power available.
They have appealed to the industrial associations to participate in the demonstration.
Meanwhile, the associations have also decided that they will submit a memorandum to the District Collector of Friday demanding measures to bring down the power cut.
The Coimbatore District Joint Committee of Auto Unions has extended its support to the one day strike announced by the micro industrial associations here on October 27 against power cut.
