A 17-year-old Plus Two student was warned by police for staging a kidnap drama on Saturday morning. The girl, a resident of Chetty Street, had told residents in R.S. Puram that a few people who were in a car had kidnapped her, snatched her jewellery weighing three-and-half sovereigns and dumped her at R.S. Puram. The girl had also told the residents that she was forcibly taken into the car near Ponnaiahrajapuram when she was on her way to tuition class.
The residents took her to her to the Variety Hall Road Police, after a preliminary inquiry, took her to the place where she said she was kidnapped. They also took her to the places where she said she had been taken. The police then checked the video recordings from the camera placed at the locations to only discover that the girl had staged a drama.
After summoning her parents, the police let her off with a warning.
Lankan refugee dies
T. Subbaiah, a Sri Lankan refugee from the Karur camp, died at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Thursday last. According to the Podanur police, the 55-year-old while working as a painter, at a building at the Bazaar Street Junction in Podanur had complained of chest pain. Those present there rushed him to the Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Man falls to death
Joseph Jayakumar S., of Thuvariman, Madurai, fell to death from his work spot, Ellen Hospital, on Sathyamangalam Road and died on Friday. According to the Rathinapuri police, the Hospital guard fell accidentally from the first floor, sustained injuries on the head and died. The police said that the incident occurred a little after midnight on Friday.
Demonstration
Periyanaickenpalayam police on Saturday removed 200 persons who staged a protest against the implementation of the Neelambur Bypass Scheme. According to the police, the protesters wanted those implementing the project to change the alignment as the current alignment would affect a number of farmers. They also wanted no toll gates to be placed on the stretch. The protest affected traffic on the busy Mettupalayam Road for quite some time.
Rice seized
Coimbatore Rural Police after a hot chase intercepted at the Ramapattinam Check Post two lorries that carried rice to Kerala. After intercepting the lorries, the police questioned the drivers, whose answers were contradictory. And when the police checked the vehicles, they found rice hidden inside concrete mixture.
