Police seek custody of scam accused

The Coimbatore City Police on Tuesday filed an application with the district court seeking one week custody of Balaji (41), one of the two brothers suspected of involvement in a Rs. 150- crore scam. He was brought from Puzhal Prison in Chennai and produced before the court on Tuesday. The hearing was adjourned to Wednesday.

Arrested

The Economic Offences Wing of the Coimbatore City Police on Tuesday arrested Subramanian, 45, the manager of Weltex firm. The firm has been accused of defrauding investors to crores of rupees in emu rearing scam.

Removed by police

Around 50 cadre of Tamil Puligal organisation were removed from Gandhipuram after they attempted to stage a demonstration on Tuesday without police permission.
