Police personnel get transfers of their choice

April 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - COIMBATORE:

As many as 120 Special Sub-Inspectors on Thursday got a chance to opt the place of their choice at a counselling session organised at the District Police Office at Ram Nagar.

The vacancies in various police stations were displayed on a giant screen.

Priority was given to the personnel based on seniority. The transparency in transfer was made available for personnel who served a particular police station for more than three years.

As many as 260 Grade-II and Grade-I Constables and Head Constables will go through counselling over the next two days.

“Personnel with no adverse remarks or charges against them can participate in the counselling,” Superintendent of Police (SP) for Coimbatore District M. Sudhakar said.

He told The Hindu that the exercise was to give the hard working field level personnel a chance to express their option in a transparent platform.

Boost morale

“It is expected to boost the morale of the personnel by letting them know that we consider their health and other personal situations too,” he said.

Mr. Sudhakar was hopeful that it also improves the efficiency of the force on the whole.

However, the SP made it clear that the panel – comprising the SP, Additional and Deputy Superintendents of Police – that chairs the transfer would also ensure that all 36 police stations in five police sub divisions in rural Coimbatore get a fair number of personnel across ranks.

“The mix of young and experienced personnel in each station will also be ensured despite giving them the option to choose the station,” he added.

On Thursday transfer orders were handed over to all the 120 personnel who took part in the counselling.

There are close to 600 vacancies in the various other ranks including Grade II, I, Head Constables and SSIs. While 380 vacancies were due to the transfers, the rest are to be filled through recruitment.
