Police, people, who helped apprehend robbers, felicitated

The 33 members of the public and the police, who were involved in apprehending two members of a gang that had robbed two fuel station employees of Rs. 24.60 lakh at gunpoint near Sulur on Tuesday, were felicitated at a function here on Thursday.

Among those felicitated was chairman of Moparipalayam town panchayat G.K. Theppeswaran.

Deputy Speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Pollachi V. Jayaraman, District Collector M. Karunagaran, Mayor S.M. Velusamy, and Superintendent of Police E.S. Uma, took part in the function held at Vagarampalayam.

On the occasion, Mr. Karunagaran said that this incident had created awareness among the people on how swift action could foil such robbery attempts in future.

The police seized a pistol and the car that was used in this robbery and are on the lookout for two more persons.

A portion of the stolen amount has been recovered. Investigations are under way.
