Facebook users, be ready to ‘like’ the Coimbatore City Traffic Police’s page on the social networking site. Or, pen your suggestions or complaints to the police. The police’s page will be up and running in a week’s time, says Deputy Commissioner Pravesh Kumar.
This New Year initiative will be part of the police’s efforts to open yet another channel of communication with the public to improve traffic policing. Two assistant commissioners of traffic or Mr. Pravesh Kumar would be handling the page.
The police would inform the residents/motorists about traffic announcements like one-ways, diversions, etc. The members of the public can also use the space to write in their suggestions. At present, the public can only call up the control room (100) or send short service messages. The latter, if only they know the officers’ numbers. Mr. Kumar says that the police were also open to having a number for receiving messages from public. The Delhi Traffic Police, Bangalore Traffic Police, Hyderabad Traffic Police, Chandigarh Traffic Police, Mumbai Traffic Police, Chennai Traffic Police have pages on the social networking site.
