The City Police on Friday nabbed D. Balasubramanian (48), who was convicted for sexual abuse of a minor in 2008 and was absconding for the last three years.
He was produced before the trial court, i.e. Mahila Court Judge, and was remanded in judicial custody.
Balasubramaniam, a former mill worker residing in Karuparayanpalayam, is said to have been married thrice. In 2005, he is said to have offered lift in a car for the 16-year-old daughter of a fellow mill worker.
The accused took her to Vellore and coerced her into marrying him and sexually abused here on April 22, 2005.
Based on a complaint by the girl’s parents, police arrested him on May 14, 2005 and the Mahila Court on April 2, 2008 sentenced Balasubramaniam to life term and 10-year rigorous imprisonment. The accused moved an appeal before the Madras High Court, which also upheld the verdict of the trial court. In 2011, disposing of an appeal, the Supreme Court granted bail to the accused but he jumped the bail conditions and went underground.
On September 26, 2013, the Supreme Court also upheld the verdict of the trial court confirmed by the High Court and cancelled the bail.
Peelamedu police arrested Balasubramaniam and produced him before the court and lodged him in the prison.
