Podanur auto driver held for killing pet dog

The Podanur police on Thursday arrested Sakthivel, an autorickshaw driver, on the charge of poisoning his neighbour’s foreign-breed pet dog to death.

According to the police, Sivakumar of Sundarapuram SIDCO Indira Nagar was having a kennel at home and used to rearing foreign breed dogs.

Recently, he had procured a Denmark-breed pup worth nearly Rs 2 lakh. On Wednesday, the pup was found dead.

Based on a complaint, when the police inquired, it was found that Sakthivel, who was rearing poultry birds at home, was upset with the pup and its master, as the dog used to bite his chickens to death often.

Poison

Hence, he reportedly laced poison on a dead chicken causing the pup’s death.

The police registered a case under section 429 of the Indian Penal Code and remanded the accused.
