A group of residents of Kallamedu, near Selvapuram, have petitioned the district administration to revoke the cancellation of their ration cards.
In a petition submitted during the public grievances meeting held at the collectorate on Monday, the residents said that Assistant Rationing Officer had cancelled around 400 cards while conducting an inspection in their area recently.
The residents said that from 800 families in 1969, at present around 5,000 families were residing in the locality.
They appealed to the district administration to revoke the cancellation of ration cards.
Aadhaar cards
Residents of Narayanaswamy Layout’s Fourth and Fifth Cross in Sanganur near Rathinapuri have urged the district administration to include their locality in the enrolment drive for Aadhaar cards. The residents said that around 115 families were residing in the area for more than 20 years. They have obtained ration cards, Electoral Photo Identity Cards and paid property tax as well.
However, when they applied for Aadhaar cards, the operating personnel informed them that their locality was not included in the rolls and they cannot be registered.
RTI Act
Neelambur Panchayat president R. Latha Ravi and other elected representatives of the local body have appealed to district administration to take action against those submitting frivolous petitions under the Right To Information Act.
She said that a petitioner had recently applied for information under this Act.
Even after being provided with the requisite information, the petitioner denied having received them and had threatened them.
Another petitioner had sought information from a file that had been sealed following a court case. The petitioner refused to accept this explanation and was threatening to lodge a police complaint.
All these activities were preventing the local body officials from releasing money for development works. As such, the Panchayat president appealed to the local body to act against such petitioners.
