The Nallur Consumer Welfare Association (NCWA) has petitioned the District Revenue Officer R. Gajalakshmi asking the district administration to take steps for expeditious issue of ration cards to those who have applied for new cards.
Nallur Consumer Welfare Association president N. Shanmugasundaram said almost 7,000 applications from people in Tirupur city and its immediate suburbs were pending at the Tirupur taluk supply office for long time, with some lying even for more than two years.
According to him, many of the officials at the office of tahsildar (civil supplies) have been keeping the applicants waiting without attributing any reason for the act.
The forum reiterated the demand for creation of one more taluk supply office for Tirupur South Assembly constituency in order to ease the rush in seeking new ration cards.
End of April
District Supply Officer S. Asokan told The Hindu that all the pending applications pertaining to new ration cards would be processed before the end of April.
On the creation of another tahsildar’s office for the supply department, he said that proposal was pending before the authorities concerned.
