Demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister and Deputy General of Police over the brutal killing of people at Thoothukudi, members of DYFI, and CPI(M) attempted to take out a rally in the city.

A large police contingent was posted near the Anna Park where the activists had planned to gather and took out the march.

When they began a march, the police prevented them.

They breached the security barricades and blocked the road. They raised slogans stating that firing on innocent people was a barbaric act and demanded the resignation of the CM and DGP.

Some of them tried to burn Chief Minister in effigy. Later, all the 40 activists, including CPI(M) district committee member K. Jothilakshmi, DYFI district secretary N. Praveen Kumar were taken to a marriage hall.
