The supply of drinking water under the Pilloor scheme resumed in the city on Wednesday, Mayor R. Venkatachalam said.
The supply was halted for a major part of the day on Tuesday following a leak through a damaged valve in the main line at Vayyampalayam.
After the repairs were carried out, the pumping of water resumed on Tuesday night at Velliyankadu, thus enabling the resumption of supply in the city on Wednesday, he said.
Problems
Problems in the Pilloor line weighed heavily in the minds of elected representatives and officials in charge of various arrangements relating to the conduct of the World Classical Tamil Conference in June this year.
At the same time, the Corporation also hoped major problems would not occur during this summer because already some areas in the city were complaining of erratic supply.
The Mayor said the constitution of quick response teams in the water supply wing might help in timely detection of leaks in the main line and the internal distribution lines.
“We can look at the possibility of close co-ordination between the Corporation and the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, in terms of providing assistance in the form of manpower and equipment to plug leaks or replace breached lines,” the Mayor said.
“I have made this suggestion to the Corporation's engineers,” he said.
