The Mallur police on Sunday arrested Selvaraj (43), a photographer from the film field, on the charge of posting an old video with a false message of police action against people opposed to the Salem – Chennai green corridor project.

Police said he posted the video on WhatsApp and Facebook with a false claim that a man was killed in police firing on people agitating against the project in a Salem village. Investigations by a special police team revealed that the message was posted by Selvaraj of Virugampakkam in Chennai, from Mallur near here. The police party rushed to Chennai and arrested him. He was produced in a court here on Monday and remanded in judicial custody.
