India is doing well in education related to information technology and information technology enabled services. Hence, Philippines is looking to learn from the best practices, according to Penny Bongato, Executive Director for Talent Development, Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP).
She was on a visit to Bharathiar University and a few affiliated colleges here on Thursday to study the industry-academia partnership model that the university had with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and other companies.
“The IT and ITes companies here work in collaboration with universities to provide courses that are relevant to the industry. We are also doing something on similar lines in Philippines. This visit and exposure to the model here will help us strengthen our work in Philippines. Some portions of it will also be replicated,” she said.
According to M. Jayakumar, Director, Department of Extension, Career Guidance and Students’ Welfare, the BPAP worked on platform similar to NASSCOM in India. “Ms. Bongato was interested in learning more about how TCS has initiated and built talent supply in the region. Bharathiar University has been supplying huge talent resources to TCS for more than five years.”
The university was also looking to tie up with the BPAP in mutual areas of interest. “Gaming, animation and health management information systems are strong in Philippines. We can use that expertise to design programmes for our students here,” he said. Ms. Bongato interacted with the faculty members at PSGR Krishnammal College for Women and Sri Krishna College of Arts and Science on some of the courses the colleges had designed in association with TCS.
