Popular Front of India on Monday submitted a petition to the District Collector seeking action against people restricting children of Karunanidhi Nagar from using a ground at Ramalinga Colony.

The petition said that there is no ground for children for playing games at Karunanidhi Nagar. Due to this, they are forced to use a ground located at nearby Ramalinga Colony. The petition said that a section of people from Ramalinga Colony allegedly restricted children from using the ground.

Children from Karunanidhi Nagar also staged a demonstration with sports gears at the Collectorate on Monday.

Meeting sought

A group of residents from Chinniyampalayam urged the District Collector to convene a special grama sabha meeting to discuss expansion activities at Coimbatore international airport. The petitioners wanted the Collector to take the lead in expediting land acquisition for airport expansion that has been delaying for several years.

Ill-treatment alleged

Conservancy workers working at Periyanaickenpalayam town panchayat submitted a petition alleging ill-treatment by some of the senior officials. The petitioners said they had been working with the town panchayat over 15 years as temporary conservancy workers. However, they are denied of basic benefits. The petitioners alleged that they are forced to work on Government holidays and some days on extra hours.

‘Allot land’

Tamil Nadu Oppressed People’s Living Movement sought District Collector’s intervention to allot land for 292 persons from Irugur town panchayat who were given patta in 2001.

A petition submitted by the movement said that families of the 292 people are living in poor conditions as Government is yet to allocate land for them.

Action demanded

Members of Indu Makkal Katchi on Monday demanded action against an evangelist for alleged remarks on Hinduism.

The petition was submitted along with copies of pamphlets allegedly circulated by the evangelist.
