The flying squad attached to the District Supply Office seized 350 litres kerosene from N. Arumugam of Sanganoor Road, Rathinapuri, following a tip-off.

Flying squad attached to the District Supply Office on Friday seized 350 litres petrol, a small quantity of kerosene, a dozen fan, mixie and grinder – given as freebies by the State Government – and public distribution system (ration) cards from two persons in Rathinapuri on Friday.

According to the official sources, the flying squad seized 350 litres kerosene from N. Arumugam of Sanganoor Road, Rathinapuri, following a tip-off. They were trying to ascertain if the petrol was pure or was it adulterated with kerosene meant for public distribution. It would be known only on Saturday following a quality test.

If so, the officials said they would have to probe the source of the kerosene.

The sources also said that the squad seized 12 sets of fan, mixie and grinder from Nageswaran of Thayir Itteri Road. He was an employee of the Tamil State Transport Corporation and a member of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

An AIADMK functionary from the area claimed that the officials had seized more than 100 public distribution system cards, kerosene in seven cans, 16 sets of fan, mixie and grinder and also rice.

The functionary said that though he was a party worker, he was not active and held no position. The seizure suggested that he had been in the business for a long time.

Official sources that the squad’s investigation was under progress and they would decide on the next course of action on Saturday.
