Top officials of the Department of School Education including Secretary D. Sabitha and Director M. Devarajan on Friday reviewed the performance of Government schools of five districts in the Standard X and Plus-Two public examinations this year.

Ms. Sabitha told the officials to not only improve the pass percentage but also focus on quality content enrichment as the State Government had introduced several new measures such as starting English medium sections from the current academic year.

She said that with many incentives being given to the students of Government schools, the institutions must produce better results.

While the Government was implementing many schemes to boost the infrastructure in government schools, she also suggested that for additional facilities, the schools could approach industries and business houses for sponsoring the works under their corporate social responsibilities.

Plans for the upcoming academic year were also discussed. The Secretary told reporters that Education Management Information System (EMIS) Project, under which a comprehensive database on every school student and teacher in the State is being created, was likely be implemented this academic year. At present, data compilation process was under way and had almost been completed. This project would help track the progress of the students and would have data such as the career progress of teachers.
