Foolproof bandobast would be made on all the roads leading to Coimbatore, during the World Tamil Classical Conference scheduled to be held in June, a top police official said on Wednesday.
On infiltration bid by left extremists, particularly in Dharmapuri district, West Zone IG Pramod Kumar told reporters here that there was no single case of infiltration, as the concept of border Vigilance committees was very effective on the borders of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
The performance of police force in the West Zone, comprising eight districts of Tamil Nadu, was better in 2009 than 2008, which reflected extremely well maintained law and order and decreased combined crime rate, he said.
Compared to 8,896 violent crimes in 2008, there was a decrease of 27 per cent -6,530- in 2009, while the crime against woman was down by 29 per cent from 1467 in 2008 to 1043 in 2009,he said.
Other major crimes decreased from 27,449 in 2008 to 24,884 in 2009, in the districts of Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Nilgiris, Salem, Namakkal,Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri.
Stating that charge-sheeting of IPC cases was also more in 2009 with 39,608 when compared to 35,598 in 2008, an increase of 11 per cent, he said cases convicted in court were also on the increase with 20,930 cases in 2009, where as it was 18,051 in 2008, an increase of 16 per cent.
The percentage of detection in property offences was 72 per cent and recovery 70 per cent, with the value of properties lost at rs.16.38 crore and the recovery at Rs.11.40 crore in 2009, he said.
