The Central Government has introduced the ‘Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme (VCES)’ with effect from May 13, 2013 for persons who have failed to pay service tax dues to the Department from October 1, 2007, to December 31, 2012.

According to a release from the Office of the Commissioner of Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax, the service tax declarants, on compliance with the requirements of the scheme get immunity from interest, penalties and other proceedings.


The features of the scheme, are: make a truthful declaration of pending service tax dues of the above said years, pay at least 50 per cent service tax dues before December 31, 2013, pay remaining 50 per cent service tax dues by June 30, 2014, or by December 31, 2014 with interest from July 1, 2014 onwards, and on compliance with all the requirements, get immunity from interest, penalties, and other proceedings. Trade and industry are invited to take advantage of this scheme and use the opportunity to regularise the issue of non-payment of service tax by paying the same as prescribed in the scheme and avail themselves of immunity.
