Parties call for bandh on April 16

April 10, 2010 12:59 pm | Updated 12:59 pm IST - Tirupur

The Left parties along with Pattali Makkal Katchi, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam have called for a joint dawn-to-dusk bandh in Tirupur city and its immediate suburbs, on April 16.

The agitation is to protest against the increase in yarn and petrol prices, frequent power failures and inflation.

A release from Communist Party of India (Marxist) said that the decision to observe bandh was taken following a meeting of representatives of CPI (M), CPI, PMK, DMDK and MDMK, held here on Friday.

Essential commodities would be exempted from the bandh.
