On V.K.K. Menon Road and a few other areas, the Corporation is yet to construct drain
In Ward 52, there seems to be two sets of people – those who have good sewerage facility and those who do not.
And, those people live on the same streets. For instance on the Chinnasamy Naidu Street, residents on the eastern side have good sewerage facility and those on the west do not.
The disparity seems to be spread across most of Ward 52. One can see the Corporation providing drain for residents who are on one side of the road while ignoring those who are on the other side, says Councillor A. Nandhakumar, pointing to Annapoorna Layout, R.R. Layout, Rabindranath Layout and a few more areas.
On V.K.K. Menon Road and a few other areas, the Corporation was yet to construct drain.
Mr. Nandhakumar says that the disparity had existed for at least two years ever since the civic body completed the construction of the drain on one side of the road under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission scheme. Since then the residents have been demanding drain on portions that have been excluded.
A launderer, who had his make-shift shop in the area, says that for long the Corporation had not repaired the drain, not cleaned it and the result is for everybody to see. And, he suffers the most because he conducts his business there.
A few residents say that unless the Corporation completes the drain work, they are in for trouble because rains lead to inundation within no time. The new drain will not be of any help as it on the other side of the road the old drain is either damaged or clogged.
Corporation officials say that they will look into the issue.
