Most of the private schools in this district have not displayed the revised fees structure.
Many parents paid the fees demanded by the school managements well in advance – in the months of May and first two weeks of June – due to pressure by the managements threatening to debar their children or remove their names from the rolls if the payment was not made.
With the fees guidelines published in the School Education Department's official website - http://www.pallikalvi.in/schools/Fees/NAMAKKAL.pdf - on Friday, parents of some of the students who realized that they have been fleeced staged protests outside a couple of schools here on Saturday.
“Most of the parents made the payment while the rest who could not make arrangements for such exorbitant fees demanded by the management, and parents who patiently waited for the government to make an announcement had to undergo mental agony,” a parent lamented.
“Despite repeated representations made by us urging the school (a school in Kumarapalayam) to wait till the government's guidelines were published, the school even threatened to take the children off the rolls,” she alleged.
Parents were shocked when the school finally sent Transfer Certificate (TC) of students who had not paid the fees to their houses through registered post, recently.
“When we refused to get the TC and took our children to the school on June 15, we were denied permission to even enter the school campus following which we had to go for a demonstration in front of the school,” a parent said.
“Now our children have been permitted to attend classes but are ill treated by the teachers as instructed by the management,” he said.
