Owners of nearly 50 buildings in the city that were sealed in April – May this year for violations and deviations have appealed to the State Government for relief.
Following a fire at Vigneshwar Cresta, a commercial complex on Avanashi Road, in April this year, officials of the Local Planning Authority and Coimbatore Corporation had sealed about 60 buildings in the city for violations and deviations. Of these, 11 buildings have got relief through judicial recourse.
S. Kulandaivel, who is the secretary of the association formed by those whose buildings remain sealed, told presspersons here on Friday that the owners will provide all safety systems, emergency exit, vehicle parking facility, and fire safety systems in the buildings.
The Government should provide six months to install these and remove the seal.
“We have appealed to officials in various departments. They ask us to get a direction from the court,” he says.
Many of the buildings are just 3,000 sq.ft. or 4,000 sq.ft. These are built on small plots. Some of the owners have invested huge amount in the buildings.
They have to pay interest to the banks and private lending agencies. Those who wanted to occupy rental space in these buildings have paid advance amount and they are also affected.
SchemeThough there is a scheme under which the building owners can submit a revised plan, he says that all the building owners affected cannot benefit from it. The Chief Minister should intervene in this matter, he adds.
