Over 6,000 students appeared for the 4th edition of the Hunt for Junior 2017 CV Raman Science Talent Test conducted in seven centres across Coimbatore district on Sunday.

The test was conducted by the city-based CV Raman Academy, a leading coaching institute preparing students for the all-India competitive examinations (IIT-JEE, NEET etc). The Hindu was the media partner.

According to P.V. Lakshmi, Director – Operations of CV Raman Academy, the turnout for the test has increased three-fold this year compared to the previous years. This is because of the introduction of NEET and the proposal to introduce All-India common entrance test for admission to engineering courses too.

Over 6,700 students from Class V to XII registered online and offline for the talent test. It was only 2,000 last year, she said.

The test was held in three slots from 9 a.m. to 4.15 p.m. on Sunday. Students from Class V to VII were provided the first slot, Class VIII and IX were allocated second slot and third slot for Class X to XII.

The test had 50 to 75 objective-type questions in three sections such as easy, medium and tough in Science, Mathematics and Mental Ability. The marks vary from 200 to 300 as per the course for which the children appeared for the examination.

Organisers said that the results will be declared on November 23 for Class X, November 28 for Class IX, December 1 for Class VIII, December 3 for Class XII, December 6 for Class IX and December 9 for Class V to VII. Students can access the results on www.cvramanschool.in

The CV Raman Academy also announced scholarship to the tune of ₹38-lakh for the successful students. It would also give away cash awards, said Ms. Lakshmi.
