The Railway Protection Force (RPF) booked a total of 446 cases pertaining to violation of rules in Tirupur railway station and onboard trains passing through the stretch, in 2012. A sum of Rs. 95,650 was levied as fine on violators.
Official sources told The Hindu that of the cases, 19 were pertaining to pulling the ‘Inter-Communication Chain’ in the train with most of them occurring because of the limited stoppage time of around three minutes given for the trains at Tirupur station.
“Though the chain pulling happens mostly because that someone from a bunch could not board the train on time, penalty needs to be imposed on certain occasions as such acts upset the schedule of other trains running on the sector,” railway officials pointed out.
During 2012, most number of cases (164) was registered against unauthorised vendors both on the platform and onboard the trains. The second highest number of violation, totalling 157 cases, related to nuisances to people by people in inebriated condition and also due to smoking.
For travelling on roof and footboard of the trains, five persons were booked in 2012. A total of 50 persons were fined for reselling the tickets purchased by them, official sources said.
