Over 100 arrested

The Coimbatore City and Rural Police on Saturday arrested and detained over 100 persons belonging to various organisations for the violence that followed the murder of Hindu Munnani leader C. Sasikumar.

Sources said the police detained around 50 persons in 30 cases registered in the city for stoning buses, commercial establishments and religious facilities. Police also arrested persons for damaging police outposts and toll plaza.

The Coimbatore Rural Police detained close to 80 persons in over 50 cases registered on Friday and Saturday, sources said.

On Friday, shops, commercial establishments, autorickshaws, cars and places of worship were damaged on Big Bazaar Street, Vincent Road and areas close to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital .
