Student volunteers of the cultural programme and exhibition committee of the World Classical Tamil Conference attended an orientation programme at Bharathiar University here on Tuesday.

Arul Jayapathi and Sethurama Subbiah briefed the 74 volunteers of the cultural programmes (to be held during the course of the conference) regarding escorting the artistes performing at the programmes.

“They were briefed on how to escort the artistes to the right stage, look after lunch / refreshments arrangements set up at Coimbatore Institute of Technology, and also escort them back to their place of stay,” Co-ordinator R. Venkatapathy said.

The exhibition committee members totalling 48 were briefed on guiding visitors to the exhibition to be held on a five-acre space. “The exhibition will be based on four different concepts. There will be four sets to depict as many concepts. A light and sound show will also be part of the exhibition,” Mr. Venkatapathy said.

Nearly 600 items like sculptures, pillars, and palm-leaf manuscripts will be on display, besides various publications. It is being planned to take the volunteers to the venue on deferred days to give them a hands-on orientation and also a tour of the conference and pandal layout.
