Aathi Tamilar Viduthalai Iyakkam urged the district administration to take steps to establish one more scan centre at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, and see to it that scanning facility was available round-the-clock. In its petition, the organisation said that the people who visited the CMCH were mostly from the economically weaker sections of society who could not provide treatment elsewhere. But those people were unable to use the scan facility on time.
In some cases, the scan report was available only after the death of the patient. The waiting time for scan was at least 15 days from the date of doctors’ recommendation.
Punishment
Residents of Ward 1 and 2 of Sulur Town Panchayat on Monday submitted a petition asking the District Collector to ensure that stringent punishment was given to the person who murdered a school student on December 29.
The district administration should ensure that the police completed the investigation at the earliest.
Close Tasmac outlets
Shri Vivekanander Peravai has asked the district administration to close all Tasmac-run liquor outlets on January 12, as it had planned to celebrate Swami Vivekananda’s 152nd birth anniversary.
Contact numbers
Social Awareness Movement asked the District Collector to instruct the police to display the phone numbers of Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors prominently at rural police stations. The organisation said that it was becoming increasingly difficult for members of the public, lawyers, and others to contact the officers as Constables were not sharing the phone numbers of these officers.
Tamil boards Marumalarchi Naam Tamilar Iyakkam has urged the district administration to ensure that all name boards, sign boards, and other announcements in public places were in Tamil. The organisation said that a law enacted by the Tamil Nadu Government very clearly said that the boards should be in Tamil.
If the district administration failed to do so, the organisation would stage protests in front of the establishments that carried name boards other than in Tamil.
Title deeds
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi has urged the district administration to give title deeds to people who had applied for the same in 2013-14. In a petition, the party’s district secretary Susi Kalaiarasan said that people from the economically weaker sections of society, Dalits, and tribal people from all the taluks in the district had applied for title deed for the land on which they had built houses. But to date, the administration had not taken any action.
Encroachments
Residents of Rasipalayam Panchayat near Sulur on Monday requested the district administration to remove the fence erected by a private company on the pathway that led to a 300-year-old temple in the area. They had first petitioned the District Collector on December 15 after the Sulur Police failed to act on their petition. Following the Collector’s direction, they approached the tahsildar concerned in vain.
