One more college building sealed

April 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Officials from the Directorate of Town and Country Planning here sealed the office room and the principal’s room at KMG Polytechnic College and KMG College of Education in Pollachi on Thursday.

The authority over the last few days had already sealed buildings in two educational institutions and in one theme park.

According to K. Mookaiah, Regional Deputy-Director (in-charge) of Town and Country Planning, the total built-up area of the college is estimated to be about 1.6 lakh sq.ft. Construction works are on for another 30,000 sq.ft. The buildings do not have approval and also violate Hill Area Conservation Authority (HACA) norms.

The directorate had issued lock and seal notice in 2012 and the final notice to the institute in February this year.

Since the college had not applied for approval, the officials took action on Thursday, he said.

The department plans to seal one more college building on Friday.

Since April 13, the office of the regional deputy director has taken action on two colleges and the Local Planning Authority has taken action on one.

Mr. Mookaiah said that colleges applied for approval only when action was taken. After the final notice given in February this year, the Directorate of Town and Country Planning had asked the regional office to take action on the institutes that had not responded, he said.
