One killed, three injured in cylinder blast

One person was killed and three others sustained injuries when a cylinder exploded at a manufacturing unit at Maharajapuram on Sanganur Road on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when four workers - Chandrasekar, Ramkumar, Jayabal and Arunkumar- were operating a nitrogen powered moulding machine when the cylinder attached to a boiler-type unit exploded killing Chandrasekar from Tenkasi in Tirunelveli district on the spot.

Machine operator Jayabal along with Ramkumar and Arunkumar were taken to a private hospital, where their condition was said to be serious. The victim, who was killed, had joined the unit only recently.

Though there was no major fire, the impact of the explosion caused the death and injuries, fire and rescue services personnel who rushed to the spot said. The unit was owned by Subbiah.

Saravanampatty police registered a case and are investigating into the incident.
