Officials meet candidates, agents to discuss election rules

Ways to record expenditure explained at the meeting called by the District Collector and Returning Officer, Coimbatore, Archana Patnaik.

Officials in charge of conducting election has told candidates or their agents that the expenditure they incurred for campaigning should be routed only through bank accounts. The instructions were conveyed at a meeting called by the District Collector and Returning Officer, Coimbatore, Archana Patnaik, which was attended by election observers and expenditure observers held here on Thursday.

The Model Code of Conduct and ways to record expenditure were also explained at the meeting.

A release from Ms. Patnaik said that in the meeting officials informed the participants of the dates on which the candidates’ handbook, voters’ list and booth list would be given.

The officers explained the rules to be followed while applying for vehicle permit and ways to use the vehicles, the need for informing officials while printing handbills for distribution and obtaining receipts for the various expenditures incurred.

The candidates were also advised on the time for campaigning and the rules for the appointment of booth and counting agents. The observers and assistant observers for expenditure spoke about the rules the ECI had framed on expenditure .
