Over 32,000 students appeared for the first language paper of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) and Matriculation examinations that began in the district on Tuesday.
The examinations are being conducted in as many as 79 centres that are located in different parts of the district.
Students from 281 government, municipal, aided and self-financing schools in the district are writing the examinations.
Senior officials from the education department inspected the conduct of the examinations in various schools in the region.
They asked the students not to indulge in malpractices, copying or any other activities violating the examination rules.
The district administration had made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the examinations.
A district-level examination committee was formed and flying squads carried out surprise checks at the examination centres.
Adequate security arrangements were made in all the centres.
