Mayor P. Rajkumar and Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan on Tuesday inspected the site behind the Power House at Tatabad that the Coimbatore Corporation had earmarked for shifting the vendors from Nanjappa Road.

According to a release from the Corporation, it had earmarked a land measuring 200 ft in length and 100 ft in width for the 125 traders who now occupied the east of Nanjappa Road.

The Corporation had wanted them shifted as the Gandhipuram flyover work was under way.

When the Corporation had mooted the proposal, the traders had moved the court, which said that the Corporation was free to shift them provided it gave them an alternative land.

The release said that the Mayor asked the lorry drivers, who parked their vehicles close by, to accommodate the traders and create a conducive business environment. He also asked the people who run the shop on behalf of the Fisheries Development Corporation to not operate beyond the space allocated for conducting their business.

The release added that during the inspection of the Corporation Higher Secondary School on Nanjappa Road, he asked officials to prepare a plan for accommodating the higher studies centre, the managers of which wanted a bigger space.
