Obtaining certificates now made easy through CSC

Now, one can obtain an income or community certificate in less than two weeks, thanks to the Common Service Centres (CSCs) operated by the Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV (TACTV) Corporation at the 10 taluks in the district. This programme was introduced on February 24.

On an average, about 30 people walk into a CSC in the city everyday.

Earlier, members of the public had to run from pillar to post at the various Government departments to secure these certificates. With the e-governance initiative, the CSC has become the nodal point for the public to submit applications and collect the certificates from the Revenue and Social Welfare Departments. The TACTV now proposes to add 27 more services.

An official of the TACTV said the CSCs will start offering services like booking train tickets, processing PAN card applications, payment of Tangedco bills besides paying insurance premium, probably in a week’s time. The Coimbatore North Taluk Office in the city will also have an air-conditioned waiting hall from Thursday.

E-governance services are available in several other departments too. The advantage at the CSCs is that the applicant would be able to simultaneously verify the details that are entered into the computer. This helps avoid errors on the certificates or documents.

Further, the applicant gets an SMS alert as soon as the application is processed. Some of the facilitators said the staff strength and the number of computers at each centre should also be increased as more number of people begin using these services.
