Health and Family Welfare Minister C. Vijaya Baskar has said the State Government will soon fill up nurses vacancies.

Interacting with nurses at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital he said that the State Government would soon appoint 9,990 nurses across the State.

The Government had thus far appointed around 23,000 doctors, medical assistants and persons to other posts. The Minister was responding to the nurses who complained to him that over 650 nursing posts were lying vacant and that the remaining 216 nurses were forced to bear the work load. The Minister said the Coimbatore hospital had conducted four organ transplant surgeries which was a good thing.

Health check-up

Government hospitals across the State provided health check-ups. They would soon offer master health check-up services as well, he added. The Japanese government had given ₹286 crore towards various development projects. The World Bank, likewise, had given an interest-free loan of ₹2,600 crore.

Speaking at the Coimbatore airport, he told reporters that the Government had identified around 800 quacks and the drive would continue against those who prescribe allopathic medicines without qualification.
