A specially designed vehicle called as ‘Animals Ambulance’ of the Tamil Nadu Forest Department with hydraulic facility arrived at the Sathyamangalam Forest Division here on Tuesday.

The vehicle costing ₹ 20 lakh will be used for transporting elephants and other wild animals safely as many elephants were injured during transportation in ordinary vehicles. The State government recently sanctioned the vehicle for the division as designing works were being carried out in Coimbatore.

Sources that the vehicle has arrived for registration with the Regional Transport Office and would again be taken to Coimbatore for completion of the pending works which includes fixing of overhead water tank to keep the animals warm during transportation and installing of medical kits in the vehicle. They added that works will be completed in a week’s time after which the vehicle would arrive at the division and trail runs would be conducted.
