‘No moral policing incidents’

February 15, 2014 11:36 am | Updated May 18, 2016 08:25 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The Coimbatore City Police said that there was no Valentine’s Day-related incidents in the city. The police said that they had not registered cases nor had they received complaints of Hindu outfits coercing couples to tie the sacred knot.

But, sources said that the police were seen acting tough against couples by asking them to move away from public places – VOC Park and the Coimbatore Corporation Zoo.

City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan had warned couples from misbehaving in the public and the Hindu outfits from violating law and order. He had said that the entire City Police strength would be on the streets on Friday to maintain law and order and prevent untoward incidents.

Special Correspondent adds from Udhagamandalam: Valentine's Day in this vacation destination passed off peacefully on Friday. As a precautionary measure, police personnel were present in popular tourist spots.

However, being a week day, the scenic spots were not very crowded.

Ridiculing the practice of celebrating Valentine’s Day, some members of the Hindu Munnani performed the marriage of a dog and a goat in the crowded Five Lanterns area here. It evoked mixed reaction among passers-by.
