The Indian Medical Association, Erode, on Wednesday called upon the district administration to arrange for a 'no horn day’ as an an awareness exercise.
The idea was mooted to District Collector S. Prabakar by speakers at a meeting to highlight health hazards of noise pollution. The meeting was preceded by a rally by students to commemorate International Noise Pollution Awareness Day. The rally was flagged off at the Government Headquarters Hospital by Superintendent of Police R.Sivakumar.
Delivering a talk on noise pollution, C.N. Raja, convener, National Initiative for Safe Sound, elaborated on how high decibel levels of horns, sounds of machinery in industries, increasing number of automobiles, and noise created by generators affected human health.
