As on date there were no cases of swine flu at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said R. Vimala, Dean of CMCH, on Sunday.
In a statement, Ms. Vimala said that four persons, including one adult and three children, from Nilgiris district had been referred to the hospital. Out of them, one person tested positive for swine flu. The patient was discharged after three days of treatment. The incidence of swine flu has seen a marked decline in the district and so far only 25 cases of swine flu were reported at CMCH from January 2012 to till date.
She added that swine flu, first reported in 2009, became a seasonal flu. People who have symptoms such as fever, sore throat, cough, running nose, headache, body ache and fatigue are advised to approach a qualified medical practitioner or to visit the nearest Government Hospital. Adequate stock of medicines for treatment of swine flu was made available at all Government Hospital and health posts.
Dr. Vimala exhorted the people to frequently wash their hands with soap, cover the nose and mouth with kerchiefs while coughing and sneezing, avoid close contact with patients tested positive for swine flu. In addition, people could also go in for preventive vaccination against swine flu.
