Expecting a heavy flow of tourists during the World Classical Tamil Conference in Coimbatore, the Nilgiris district administration has started making appropriate arrangements.

Work to deck up galleries of Government Botanical Garden with some rare flower varieties has begun. Though tourist season has come to a close, this was for the first time a special display is being organised at the garden, said the Assistant Director of Horticulture, M. Prakasam. On show would be about 2,500 flowers, including lilium, tuberous begonia, carnation and salvia.

A statue of poet-saint Thiruvalluvar will enhance the beauty of the display.

Mr. Prakasam said that during April and May about 8.50 lakh tourists had visited the garden. Steps would be taken to restore the lawns to their original state.
