Commissioner of Technical Education, Kumar Jayant launched the new facility that would enable students to access resource material of the National Programme on Technology-enhanced Learning (NPTEL) at Government College of Technology here on Thursday.
The facility, set up in the digital library of the college, would enable 50 students to access online courses of NPTEL and KHAN Academy any time of the day.
It would enable enhanced learning to supplement classroom teaching and facilitates students to clear doubts.
The initiative was seen as a step to increasing quality of students leaving engineering institutions, which is the objective of the Quality Improvement Cell.
Nearly 21 engineering colleges would be associated with GCT for the facility, and it would serve as the nodal centre. The Commissioner also inaugurated a workshop on the concept of Quality Improvement Cell.
He urged teachers to motivate students to develop their reading habit so that their communication skills and thereby their employability improved.
He also exhorted faculty and management of affiliated colleges to implement the Quality Improvement Cell in their respective institutions.
The concept of Quality Improvement Cell was initiated by Anna University and all engineering colleges in the State were covered, with one nodal centre for 25 or 30 colleges.
