The newly-constructed campus with all infrastructure facilities of the Vanavarayar Institute of Agriculture at Manakadavu in about 250 acres will be inaugurated by Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S Arumugam on October 29.
Talking to newspersons, M. Manikam, Chairman of NIA Educational Institutions, Shankar Vanavarayar Correspondent of the institute and C. Ramaswamy, Secretary of NIA Institutions, said that the institute was approved by the government in August 2007 and is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. It offers B.Sc Agriculture (four years) and Diploma in Agriculture (two years) and the students so far had got 100 per cent placement opportunities.
The institute was hitherto functioning temporarily from the Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology campus at Pollachi. With the new campus ready with all the infrastructure, the institute is moving out to the new premises, which is about 15 km from Pollachi on the Meenkarai Road.
The institute is equipped with computer centre with net facility, modern library with e-journals and foreign titles, well-equipped laboratories, boys and girls' hostel, students health centre besides placement centre with interface facilities.
The 250 acre campus has irrigation facility throughout the year besides mist chamber, green house, glass house, formal gardens, Agro Met Observatory, Vermiculture and mushroom units, dairy, poultry, goat, piggery units, integrated farming system, demonstration plots and water harvesting structures are also provided. The inauguration will be attended by N. Mahalingam, Chairman of Sakthi Group of Companies, Pongalur N Palanisamy, Minister for Rural Industries and Animal Husbandry, Vellakoil M.P. Saminathan, Minister for Highways and Ports, District Collector P. Umanath and a host of other dignitaries.
