April 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - COIMBATORE:

A Navy Children’s School to help children of sailors of the Indian Navy and Coast Guard has been established here on Wednesday. A release from the Indian Naval Station Agrani said that Preeti Luthra, Naval Wives’ Welfare Association, Southern Region, inaugurated the school.

Vice-Admiral Girish Luthra, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command was present.

In the Air Force School at the Air Force Administrative College and the Kendriya Vidyalaya, Puliakulam, the naval and Coast Guard personnel found it difficult to get admission because they were oversubscribed and there existed no seats earmarked for their children. This had been a contentious issue for long in Coimbatore and it affected the morale of the personnel posted here. To overcome the problem, the naval officers took up the matter with the headquarters, and the State Government.
