The Communist Party of India on Saturday elected R. Mutharasan as the Tamil Nadu State Secretary. The 64-year-old replaces D. Pandian, who held the term for around six years.
Mr. Mutharasan was elected in Coimbatore on the concluding day of the 23rd State conference.
One hundred and twenty five State Council members elected him through secret ballot. A native of Thiruthuraipoondi, he held the post of the State secretary of the agriculture wing of the party. He has been a full-time worker for over 20 years.
