Movement to distribute toddy at meet

June 13, 2010 02:38 pm | Updated 02:38 pm IST - Coimbatore:

Field Co-ordinator of the Tamil Nadu Toddy Movement S. Nallasamy has announced that the movement would go ahead with the distribution of toddy to the delegates and dignitaries at the World Classical Tamil Conference.

Mr. Nallasamy said that the movement sought the permission of the police for the distribution in a smooth and peaceful manner.

However, the police have denied the same and the talks held with police officials remained inconclusive without any amicable solution. Police have stated that there is a ban on toddy and the distribution would amount to offence under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act and Rules.

Mr. Nallasamy said that toddy was a beverage and not an alcohol.
