Motorists given eco-friendly cloth bags to mark World Earth Day

Motorists were greeted with eco-friendly alternatives to plastic bags, in a bid to create awareness about the protection of the environment on the eve 0f World Earth Day here on Saturday.

The Hindu , in association with G-World, has taken up the initiative to organise World Earth Day celebrations, which is marked across the globe on April 22 of each year.

The event is celebrated to create awareness among public about the environment.

Motorists on Avinashi Road, near Nava India signal and near Hindustan College were surprised to receive cloth bags as well as a copy of The Hindu from volunteers and students of Sri Krishna College, who have been spreading the message about World Earth Day.

The campaign was inagurated by Sujith Kumar, Deputy Commissinor of Police - Traffic in the presence of GM Ganapathy, JMD of G-World, R K Swamy, General Manager of Sri Ganapathy Silks Sankarankoil Pvt. Limited and Vidhyasagar, Store Manager G-World. Mr. Sujith Kumar encouraged motorists to minimise the usage of plastic bags, while Mr. Ganapathy Mani said that he was happy to be a part of the initiative by promoting the use of cloth bags as an environmentally-friendly alternative to plastic and contributing towards the protecting the environment.
