The State Minister for Higher Education, K. Ponmudy on Tuesday exhorted the faculty and students in the colleges affiliated to Bharathiar University to take part in the World Classical Tamil Conference to be held in June 2010 with dedication, involvement, sincerity to make it a grand success and a memorable one.
He was addressing a consultative meeting organised at Bharathiar University. Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy, Principal Secretary to Government for Higher Education K. Ganesan, Collector P. Umanath, Vice-Chancellor C. Swaminathan, Registrar Thirumavalavan, Vice-Chancellor in charge of Anna University Kannadasan, Principals of various colleges attended the same.
Mr. Ponmudy said that studying Tamil is different from having a love, passion and involvement in the language. “It is an opportunity for us to display our love and involvement in the language”.
Participation by five lakh students and faculty members from 626 colleges in the Kongu region would itself make the event a grand success.
Resolutions passed at the meeting thanked the Chief Minister for giving Coimbatore an opportunity to host the meeting.
He exhorted the heads of colleges to plan the procession to be taken out for the World Classical Tamil Conference and said that colleges could plan floats that could depict the richness of the language and their involvement in the same.
The best participating colleges would get prizes from the Government.
He also exhorted the role that the students could play in various committees such as reception and hospitality. The students would be given training on guiding the delegates and regulating the visitors. Similarly, the students and faculty members could take part in various events planned for the conference such as debate and other cultural events. To fine-tune and finalise the arrangements, Mr. Ponmudy also said that a meeting of the faculty members and students would be organised.
