AIADMK Government would take all steps to speed up the Rs 1,928.80 crore Japanese-aided Hogenakkal Drinking water scheme that would meet water requirements of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts, Local Administration Minister K P Munusamy today said.
Speaking to reporters after reviewing ongoing works at Hogenakkal, 48 km from Dharmapuri, the Minister said he would make frequent visits to speed up the project, launched in February 2008.
He was briefed about the progress of the work by a team of Tamilnadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) officials led by its Managing Director M.Sudalaikannu and Technical Director Dhanusu.
Mr. Munusamy also inspected the treatment plant and Booster construction works in Hogenakkal Forest and the mega water storage tanks at Madam village.
He said Chief Minister Jayalalithaa`s aim was to ensure provision of potable water and total sanitation in rural areas.
All drinking water schemes would be inspected to speed up their completion, he said adding officials had been directed to set up treatment plants wherever necessary for the existing schemes.
Higher Education Minister P.Palaniyappan, K.P.Anabazhagan MLA, were among those who accompanied Mr. Munusamy.
Later, Mr. Munusamy also inspected the ongoing underground sewerage works in Dharmapuri.
