Minister for Highways and Minor Ports M. P. Saminathan inaugurated a fair price shop at Sennimalaipalayam in the district on Sunday.
A release said that the shop was opened by bifurcating the existing shop at Vijayapuram in an attempt to ease the rush.
The new shop has 529 ration cards under its fold. The Viajayapuram shop, prior to bifurcation, had 1,890 cards under it. Mr. Saminathan also gave away free colour television sets under a government scheme at Mannarai and Mudalipalayam. Tirupur MLA C. Govindasamy was present.
