The Coimbatore District Rural Police have charged Ganesan, a mill manager, with causing the death of a worker by negligence.
According to the police, Sahar Deva Naick (21) of Odisha, was working in the mill in Mettupalayam when the towel around his neck got caught in a machine around 11 a.m. on Wednesday. He died on the spot. Ganesan was accused of lack of supervision and failure to implement safety measures for workers.
Based on a complaint from Pappu (20), also from Odisha who was working in the mill, the Annur police registered a case and invoked Section 304 (a) (negligence causing death) of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigations are on.
Jewellery stolenAround 15.5 sovereigns of jewellery were stolen from a locked house at Nallampalayam here recently.
According to the police, the occupants were out of station for 10 days. On their return, they found the front door locks broken. The Thudiyalur police have registered a case are investigating.
Held for selling ganjaThe Coimbatore District Rural Police have arrested M. Sivakumar (38) of Vadavalli on the charge of selling ganja.
According to the police, he had more than 1.1 kg of ganja when he was arrested at Thillai Nagar near Vadavalli on Wednesday.
The Vadavalli police have registered a case and invoked sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Further investigations are on.
